the working girl blues

Letting go has always been a really difficult thing for me. Maybe I am a control-freak...maybe I fear change...I'm not really sure. Being forced to take a week off of work is a tremendous struggle for me...I have to force myself to stop checking my work email account. Sounds like fun, huh? Maybe I'm a bit jealous as well...I'm learning to let go while my boyfriend is hanging out in a strip club with The Charlatans...deep breath...let it go...hahaha!

the view from a beautiful and heartbreaking afternoon

This is one of the best videos I have ever seen...honestly! Never underestimate passion..it always wins out in the end...

put your toys back in your pram

I almost had a breakdown at work today...joy, joy...my boss made me take a week off mid-project. Fought with boyfriend via text message all night...I may officially be losing my mind...stay tuned for the sure-to-be-juicy "fall-out". How's that for a "Mariah Carey-style" nutter post? If I start carrying around a stuffed animal please save me from myself...

let us come in your mind

Good news...Mr. Hallam will be attending the Archie Bronson Outfit gig this week. He promises a full report which I will pass along. Bad News... I missed the Nouvelle Vague and Dresden Dolls gigs this weekend.

A kind stranger added one of my recent posts to the Media/Reviews forum of bromheadsjacket.com. I love those boys!

Here is a sample of my current play list:

The Delaney - The Libertines

Changing Lines - Existensminimum (Wow! Lovin' this track!)

Not Just Words - The Black Heart Procession

God Knows - El Perro del Mar (Kate Bush fans...try this track)

Trip To The Golden Arches - Bromheads Jacket

Have a great week and try not to sell your soul to the devil... seems to be all the rage these days!

keep it simple, stupid

I need to sort myself out...exhausted, irritated and overwhelmed. What a charming combination! Work is so insane and complex at the moment...all I want to do is keep the rest of my life very simple, simple, simple. Maybe that is regressive...but I really don't give a fuck! Somebody needs a nap...

Old McDonald Had A Farm - Rufus Thomas

Thanks for the track Jess.

IUD, SMS, stay in school cuz it's the best!

Since I am currently in a VERY long-distance relationship...and accumulating an insane mobile phone bill...I'm searching for creative options that will make the time between visits a bit more bearable. Recently I discovered how Bluetooth can enhance phone sex. I'm not saying I participate in phone sex...just offering a creative alternative...

This device is worn internally, linked to a mobile phone and controlled by sms text messages sent to the phone. Once read, the message is transported automatically to the device, which turns it into vibrations - with a huge range of movements, depending on what you have written.

when you're 21 you're no fun

Went to the Ladytron gig last night at Irving Plaza. G described it as "electro-goth ABBA"...pretty accurate.
I've been too tired to post much music lately...sorry about that. I am slowly recovering from my insane work week by listening to Les Incompetents...really digging them! Hope you enjoy their video for "How It All Went Wrong".

we can fuck forever but you will never get my soul

Before I get into today's post I wanted to mention that the Archie Bronson Outfit post boasts the most downloaded tracks on this blog. Which means you must love them as much as I do! I promise to include frequent ABO updates.

Speaking of ABO...listening to them reminded me of an all-time favorite...The Gun Club. The Gun Club came out of the early '80's L.A. punk scene. The same "cowpunk" scene that spawned X and The Blasters and that was beginning to reveal hints of the No-Depression movement that would flower more than 10 years later. Their punk-blues has been described as "Howling Wolf backed by the Cramps" and has influenced bands like Pixies, The Whites Stripes, 16 Horsepower, Nick Cave and Queens of the Stone Age. Their first album Fire of Love is an absolute must-have...trust me! It includes a cover of Son House's "Preaching The Blues" that is brilliant! Front-man Jeffrey Lee Pierce was truly one-of-a-kind...R.I.P.

Download: For The Love Of Ivy

Excerpt from a great Fire Of Love review: What makes Fire Of Love such a brilliant listen long after its time is the fact that this blatant homage to the blues was amplified, energized and kicked into overdrive - yet not in the way that, say, The Yardbirds or Led Zeppelin did it, but in a new style that combined the ghostliness of the original model with a FAST, unwound and supremely energetic beat.

nice new outfit

My god...you must, must, must listen! They sound amazing and they went to art school...I'm in love!

Official artist bio:
Discovered by Domino label boss, Laurence Bell, in his local watering hole - a distinctly off the track hostelry - Archie Bronson Outfit are one of the most unique and brilliantly out of step British bands in years. Originally hailing from the West Country, the boys relocated to South West London where they studied Art alongside future members of current contemporaries The Beatings and The Duke Spirit. Juggling their art school education with the grand task of refining their rock and roll vision,(much like fellow West Country girl Polly Harvey before them), Archie Bronson Outfit have arrived at their own markedly British rock cocktail - a taut, lean sound, as subtle as it is powerful.

Attempting to find "my happy place" at the moment....working far too much. Taking the evening off tomorrow to see Art Brut. They are one of the best live bands...Eddie is a lunatic! Tell you all about it on Wednesday. Until then...here is the b-side/loose cover of The Streets single by one of my new favorites...

the arctic boosh

If the last post piqued your interest...here is that entire episode of The Mighty Boosh...for your weekend viewing pleasure. I love it...because the first single I ever bought was Cars/Gary Numan...and because I've developed quite a crush on Noel Fielding.

Thanks for this recommendation, Mr. Hallam.

The Mighty Boosh. Proof that the English do have a sense of humor...and can, in fact, rap. Well...sorta...
